Honouring the Spirit of Hip Hop - The Curated By Kaya Experience
Hip Hop has and will forever be a genre to cherish. A genre many grew up with and a genre many try to pursue a career in.
Hip Hop has become the foundation of what many regard as the culture, a powerful force that continues to shape communities and creative expression. In the Mother City, that culture has steadily grown thanks to a wealth of talented artists who have dedicated themselves to their craft, consistently delivering music that resonates deeply and rewards listeners with moments of wonder, passion, and artistry.
And thanks to our family at Curated By KAYA, they were able to pull off an event to remember for many. Celebrating the culture, a show was curated, bringing together some of Cape Town's finest, treating the crowd with incredible music throughout the night.
Opening the show was the highly respected Lyricist, Master Kiii, pleasing listeners' ears with his impeccable poetry off his widely adored “Anemoia” album that still remains a VERVE classic.
Next to take the stage was the electrifying Maylee Malindi, a rising talent who continues to push boundaries with her invigorating sound. Performing a selection of standout tracks from her recently released album, “YONKE”, she captivated the crowd with a performance full of confidence, energy, and charisma. The project, which we’ve come to adore, brings a refreshing and innovative twist to the Xhosa rap scene, further cementing Maylee as one of the most exciting voices to watch.
And of course, we had the one and only Luukhanyo, doing what he's known best for, rocking the stage with his suave presence alongside his trusted band and vocalists, The Hii ROLLERS. The crowd was pumped for this performance as the “LUCKY UU” Rapper stunned the crowd with his extravagant show.
Closing out the night in style, Hip Hop DJ Mia Mia shook the room with her set list, gathering the crowd into circles as they showed off their smooth moves along to some Hip Hop anthems, celebrating the culture together. It was the perfect finale to a night dedicated to the spirit of Hip Hop, leaving attendees buzzing long after the last track had played.
This show was a perfect example of how Hip Hop should be experienced - through community, energy, and a shared love for the culture. Watching everyone fully immersed in the moment, catching up with friends, enjoying a cold one, and losing themselves in the music was a reminder of what makes these gatherings so special.
From the performances to the atmosphere, the night embodied everything that makes Hip Hop more than just a genre - it’s a culture that brings people together, and Curated By KAYA captured that spirit flawlessly.
