Distorted Closure - A True Labour Of Love
Images Shot By @montieshoots
Distorted Closure doesn’t begin as much as it arrives. The arrival comes in the form of Kila G’s haunting vocals that wrap around you like fog, as he walks us into a soundscape so incredibly immersive that I found myself playing WTFIHTA multiple times before even thinking about touching the next track.
Kila G has mastered the R&B genre & I do not say that lightly.
In a generation of Hip Hop/R&B hybrids, he has managed to stay true to his artistic essence & has grown from his quiet yet authentic roots to a towering presence & it is fully exhibited on this new offering.

The musical mastery on YOU with bonafide Cape Town songstress, Jordan Baker is a display of R&B virtuosity. There is an undeniable chemistry between the two vocalists that manifests itself beautifully on this record. The performance is intentional & graceful - the two sway together in a conversation between soul & sound that is bound to stay on our rotations for years to come.
As I float through this future-classic, a surge of joy fills every pore on my body. The amount of unrestrained love that this album was created from is ever so present in every vocal exultation.
As someone who has always been anchored in romance & has always expressed that through his artistic contributions - Kila G’s growth as an Amator is exposed to the light.
Songs that stand out as the anchors of this love that ripples throughout this project are PATIENT WITH LOVE & COMING HOME.
As the listener, you are drawn into a universe that operates on love as its source. There’s no pretence attached to Kila G’s expressions of love. He lets reverence move through him & that is heard in the intro of PATIENT WITH LOVE, where his significant other shares a sentiment that moved me to tears -
The Love That I Feel For You Is Not Earthly.
But like autumn leaves, nothing clings forever. Things ebb & flow, they bloom & wither & they inevitably end. This is also a natural part of love. This is the part that we are inclined to conceal from the world as it doesn’t align with our fantastical idea of love. But just as love is present in birth, it is also present in letting go.
Distorted Closure is a definitive display of R&B excellence. It is one of the most beautifully curated pieces of art that I’ve had the pleasure of listening to & what calls to me beyond all else is every single feature on this offering.
Jordan Baker, Yamiko, Stanley Branson, Luukhanyo, FeRn, Flowerchild, Naye Ayla & Orie.
It is clear to me that Distorted Closure was a true labour of love & it is glorious to bear witness to such transcendental artistic expression.
Not only will this be one of my favourite R&B albums of the year - it will be an album I keep on my rotation until the universe turns my subscription off.
Thank you, Thandekile Maboee-Banzi.
